Job overview

Due to the upcoming retirement of our current Headteacher, a unique opportunity has arisen at Middleton School for an experienced individual to lead our outstanding school from September 2019. Based in Ware, Hertfordshire, Middleton is a special school for boys and girls, from 4-11 years old, with a range of learning needs including autism, speech, language and communication needs and a variety of other challenges.

Middleton provides a positive learning environment and has established an excellent reputation within the local community with a roll of around 90 pupils drawn from across East Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. We are committed to providing a happy, safe, fun and secure environment in which every member of the school community - students, staff, parents and governors - feel valued and can flourish.

At Middleton, we all focus on, and achieve, excellent educational and social learning outcomes for all our pupils. We are proud to have been awarded outstanding status by Ofsted.  This is testament to the professional approach and dedication from the team who work together to develop our pupils to ensure that they achieve their full potential.

The Governing Body wish to appoint a new Headteacher with the skills and vision to build on Middleton’s current success and achievements: someone who will share and take forward the school’s vision and ethos, and aspirations for our pupils.  We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and positive person to lead us into the future. You will have a special education background, be a great role model and have the ability to lead change. You will have strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of external partners. Above all, you will share our passion and belief that children, their learning and the development of their potential must be at the heart of all school decisions.

In return we will offer you the full support of the Governors in your work to further develop Middleton; a dedicated and committed team; great pupils and a friendly and happy learning environment. You will also have the opportunity to play a key strategic role in the school and continue your own professional development. If you think you have what it takes to drive Middleton forward then please come and visit us, speak to the current Headteacher and talk with the children.

To arrange a visit to the school, please contact Donna Jolly, Headteacher at Middleton on 01920 485152 who will be delighted to show you around our school.

If you have any questions about the role, please contact Gemma Jeffrey, Chair of Governors email: gemma.jeffrey@middleton.herts.sch.uk.
