Job overview

This advertisement and the recruitment pack are both also available in BSL on our website.

The Governing Body is looking for a permanent Headteacher with a passion for, and commitment to, Deaf education. Blanche Nevile is a unique provision for Deaf children aged 3-16 situated in the heart of north London and co-located with two excellent mainstream schools. We are a bilingual school where British Sign Language (BSL) is taught and used alongside spoken English.

The Headteacher is responsible for both the primary department co-sited with Highgate Primary and the secondary department which shares a site with Fortismere School. The Headteacher is based at Secondary.

As well as holding the necessary qualifications, leadership and teaching experience outlined in the job description, the successful candidate will already use BSL or be fully committed to working towards achieving BSL Level 1 before starting at the school. The Governors value kindness and high standards equally and will be committed to providing the best possible education for the school’s pupils.

Application and selection process

To apply:

  • Complete the application form and return it by email to sbm@blanchenevile.org.uk by 12.00noon on 23 November 2021. A panel of governors will short list candidates for further assessment and interview based upon the criteria in the person specification, the statement of suitability and the application overall.
  • Short-listed candidates will be invited to interview by the end of 1 December 2021 and references will be requested from referees at this point.
  • Interviews and assessments will take place at the school on 9/10 December 2021.

Significant care will be taken to ensure Covid and overall safety of candidates, staff, pupils and the panel.

The assessment will involve observing a lesson and giving feedback, an in-tray exercise and a data exercise. During the whole day, candidates will be assessed on their interaction with pupils and staff.

The interview will further test how well candidates meet the person specification along with the behaviours and values documented in the job description.

We would like the successful candidate to start at the school for the Summer term (April 2022).
