Job overview

Due to well-deserved promotion of our long standing Headteacher, Whitley and Eggborough Community Primary School are looking for dynamic Headteacher who is as passionate about raising standards and teaching and learning as they are about being a committed leader. We are looking for a committed, experienced and skilled leader with the vision to shape our improvement plan, raise standards and oversee the continued development of innovative and dynamic teaching and learning. You will also work to raise expectations throughout the school community, ensuring pupils make the best possible progress over time and that all staff are supported, developed and feel part of a valued team.

The school encourages a strong learning culture based on mutual care and respect and underpinned by a vibrant, innovative and collaborative research curriculum. We are an inclusive school where staff actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual pupils, or groups of pupils. In addition, we are part of School Direct, which sees students from Hull and Leeds Beckett Universities spending a year in the school to qualify as teachers.

Currently rated as Good by Ofsted, the atmosphere in school is incredibly friendly and welcoming and our children are confident, communicative, polite and well-mannered. There are 7 classes across the stages from Early Years to Year 6 with four of these mixed age within the key stage.

Situated on the rather aptly named Learning Lane, in the village of Whitley, the school sits on the border of North and East Yorkshire close to J34 of the M62 motorway, on the A19 eight miles south of Selby. Due to its location, Whitley benefits from easy access to Leeds, Bradford, York, Hull, Wakefield and Doncaster as well as the rest of the Motorway network. There is also a local railway station at Whitley Bridge.

Opened originally in 1877, Whitley and Eggborough Community Primary School was extensively rebuilt in the early 1970s and was further extended in 2011. It has a pleasing open aspect to the rear of the buildings, looking over farm and woodland. We have our own open space and woodland, which we enjoy and use as an integral part of our curriculum work. The school has a good range of facilities indoors, including spacious classrooms, a school hall and dining room and an onsite breakfast and afterschool club. The school serves a number of local villages where there is currently a good deal of new housing development which is very likely to see the school need to expand.

Clearly, there will be challenges to embrace, but we feel we are very well placed to build on our successes. You must possess the vision to see these challenges, develop a clear view and positively embrace any changes required while actively setting and achieving high standards. This will require a positive, determined, clear and focused mind-set and the ability to engage and enthuse staff.

Your ability to analyse data and oversee budgets, ensuring they stay on track, is essential.

If this sounds like you we’d love to hear from you.

We very much welcome school visits. If you’d like the opportunity to visit, please contact Diane Steward, School Business Manager on 01977 661247 or email: officemanager@whitley.n-yorks.sch.uk
