Job overview

Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Headteacher on a full-time permanent basis from April 2021 or September 2021. A consultancy role is available in the meantime.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an Ofsted Outstanding primary special school that provides a specialist meaningful and functional learning environment for children with special educational needs. This includes language, communication and social pragmatic difficulties. The school has a specialism in autism spectrum challenges (ASC). The school has a Jewish ethos but welcomes children from all faiths and none. The person appointed will not be required to have a Jewish identity.

It was founded by two parents of children with additional needs, whose ultimate ambition is to contribute influence to the way that children with SEN are educated in the UK. Their success as an all-through school with evidence of personal and academic achievement and ambitious progression pathways is critical to that mission. The primary school was opened in 2017 and awarded an Ofsted Outstanding 7 months later. The school is fully equipped with whiteboards in every classroom, full set of therapy equipment, a state of the art sensory room, an OT room, full outdoor playground equipment and aswell as classroom resources designed to meet each child’s needs.

The schools' approach is warm, friendly and nurturing. They believe that all children have the potential to achieve, but that every child is individual and requires a tailored, child-centred approach to learning. Emotional health and resilience, developing children’s independence and learning, is at the core of its vision.

An exciting opportunity exists for an exceptional person to lead the school’s expansion into secondary offering 120 pupil places and play a part in its ongoing development into a Centre of Excellence encompassing Assessment and Diagnosis and a research centre. As will be evident, we are looking for a leader who shares the schools passion and ambition - someone committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for its children and, importantly, to further professional development and research as a part of the school’s educational remit.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and evidence of continuing professional development
  • Successful teaching experience in one or more special schools or educational organisations for children with autistic spectrum disorders. Non-special needs experience will count, but needs to be clearly stated as such
  • Proven successful leadership and management experience at Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher level
  • Evidence of the strong personal and intellectual qualities required to set an example to others and to lead a team of staff within a special school, to give direction or guidance on special needs education to the managers of mainstream schools, and to work co-operatively with education services, health and social services and other statutory and voluntary agencies
  • Evidence of an ability to involve the community fully, in order to enhance the life chances of all pupils
  • The capacity for innovative thinking and enthusiasm for the challenge of change

School Benefits:

  • Excellent financial package
  • Free coffee, tea and healthy fruit baskets
  • Free parking
  • SEN library
  • Staff socials; Boxing and Yoga ARE just some of the initiatives that form part of the culture and the school’s wellbeing policy
