Job overview

Headteacher Q3 Academy Great Barr- Link to Apply

Q3 Academy Great Barr is a highly successful, oversubscribed 11-18 Academy located in Great Barr in Sandwell, committed to raising achievement and curriculum innovation. We have 1172 students on roll, with 26% of students in receipt of Pupil Premium.  Our GCSE headline results continue to be among the best in Sandwell, and this success is underpinned by a relentless focus on raising standards, developing the whole child, and improving the quality of teaching and learning. The school is proud to be able to offer a broad and balanced curriculum which provides all students the opportunity to be successful.

The Mercian Trust and Local Governing Body are looking to appoint an ambitious and inspirational leader with a commitment to our Trust’s mission of social mobility and social justice together with a proven track record of leading innovation and development, in line with our Trust’s Blueprint for leadership and culture. Our long-standing Headteacher, Mark Arnull, is stepping into a leadership role within our Trust from September and therefore we are looking to appoint a Headteacher who will build on the strong practice in school to ensure increased opportunities and outcomes for all students.

The successful candidate will recognise and nurture success in our school whilst seeking ways to continue the journey of the school to improve further by working collaboratively with our Trust leaders, demonstrating a commitment to the development of themselves, other leaders within the school and our Trust, and the delivery of our Trust’s strategic plan.  They will also build upon the strong relationships which exist in the local community including further developing well established partnerships with local primary schools. They will demonstrate a commitment to our shared values and ethos, and lead the development of an innovative and progressive staff body who are committed to helping young people to flourish and become confident capable adults ready for the world ahead.

Our Ofsted inspection in September 2022 recognised that we were a good school which serves it community well and is ambitious for all learners; we are seeking a Headteacher who will build upon and further develop this strong foundation.

The successful candidate will be supported by our Trust’s Executive Team, School Improvement experts and Trust Professional Services – along with local governors and trustees, who together are focused on further developing the strong foundations at Q3 Academy Great Barr. Our next Headteacher will demonstrate a commitment to our shared values and ethos, and lead the development of an innovative and progressive staff body who are committed to helping young people to flourish and become confident capable adults ready for the world ahead.

It was in Mercia that St Chad established an association of small monasteries which fostered unity through bonds of kinship. We intend, a thousand years later, to adopt the same spirit in our approach to a Multi-Academy Trust. Pupils in the Mercian Trust will be part of a family of schools forming an educational community. We are convinced that we are stronger together. The Trust is already shaping the educational landscape in exciting ways and every pupil in the Trust will be part of that story.

The Mercian Trust brings together different schools catering for a wide range of individual needs into one Multi-Academy Trust in order to offer the broadest and best education to all pupils regardless of their socio-economic, cultural or ethnic background. Leveraging the strengths of the participating schools, Mercian Trust pupils will be able to access the advantages and opportunities that each school brings – in teaching, leadership, breadth of curriculum, facilities, enrichment activities and community engagement.

Our Mission: To provide the best education and life chances for the children and young people of Walsall.
