Job overview

Required for January 2021

L30 – L36 Headteacher Group 7

Number on Roll 1,100 (11-18)

St Joseph’s is looking for an outstanding Catholic leader who has the vision and drive to ensure that the school continues on its upward trajectory, recognising the work that is still to be done in embedding and securing the re-established trust that our parents and guardians have in our school.

The successful candidate will join us at a very exciting and rapidly evolving stage in our journey toward excellence.

Applications are invited from practising and committed Catholics for the post of Headteacher at St Joseph’s Catholic Academy, an 11-18 school which is part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust.

Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust is one of four Trusts in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle designated to grow significantly by July 2022. It is the intention that the Trust will grow to eventually incorporate 34 Schools (5 Secondary and 29 Primary Schools across South Tyneside, Sunderland and East Durham).

The Trust is looking for a Headteacher for St Joseph’s who will continue the journey of improvements within the school and support the next stage in the journey. The staff and students pride themselves on having the aspiration to seek ways to constantly “become better” in all aspects of its work, with inspirational Leaders, providing inspirational guidance to our whole school community.

The successful candidate will have the ambition, drive and expertise to ensure that St Joseph’s continues to thrive as a Catholic Community, which provides excellent learning opportunities, educates the “whole child” and helps to achieve social justice in the community it serves.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right leader to take St Joseph’s on the next phase of its journey. The successful applicant can be assured of excellent support from the Trust central team, the Diocese and partner schools.

To have an informal, confidential discussion about the post with Mr Brendan Tapping, Chief Executive Officer for Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, please email dmollon@st-wilfrids.org  by Monday 8 June 2020 to make arrangements for this.

Application packs can be downloaded from the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust website http://bccet.org.uk/vacancies/  and are also available on the TES website.  Only the CES forms included in the application pack should be used to apply for this post.  Please do not download forms directly from the CES website.

Completed application forms should be submitted by email to Claire Druery, HR Manager cdruery@nscet.org.uk by 9am on Friday 12  June 2020. If you are unable to submit an electronic application, please contact Claire Druery on the email address above to discuss alternative arrangements.

Electronic signatures will be accepted but candidates will be required to add a written signature to their application when circumstances allow.

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of pre-employment checks.

Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust is an equal opportunities employer, welcoming applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults and we expect staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
