Job overview

About this Role

Judith Kerr Primary School (JKPS) is a happy and successful school where children are motivated to learn and staff are proud to work. Our school is a Free School set up 11 years ago by a group of local parents who were passionate about bilingual education. We believe that bilingualism is for everyone and welcome children of all language abilities, whether they are German learners, or they have spoken German at home since infancy.

JKPS is a special place where staff are dedicated to providing a stimulating and exciting learning environment where every child can thrive, and in which everyone feels valued and safe. We want our pupils’ time in our school to be memorable and we provide a caring environment where every child is valued as an individual and where diversity is celebrated.

In its previous inspection, OFSTED (Graded Good in July 2022) noted: Pupils enjoy coming to school. They have high standards for themselves and each other. They talk confidently about the importance of treating each other with fairness and respect. They also learn how to respect and appreciate people in different situations from themselves, such as those in different types of families. Pupils are particularly proud that they can learn and get better at German. From the moment they start school, children are immersed in the German language. They are also taught to appreciate German culture, including a variety of stories and songs.

Children at Judith Kerr Primary School achieve well academically. Last year’s KS2 SATs results were some of the highest in the country. We are looking for a committed leader who has high aspirations for all children across all aspects of primary school life. We are lucky to work in a school where the community is equally committed to the children’s learning experience and we value working with parents as partners. We offer a wide range of after school clubs and wrap around care for children and working families and these clubs are well attended.

Job purpose

  • To provide professional leadership and management of Judith Kerr Primary School that will promote a secure foundation from which to achieve high standards in all areas of the school’s work.

  • To establish high quality education by effectively managing teaching and learning and using personalised learning to realise the potential of all pupils.

These duties and responsibilities should be regarded as neither exhaustive nor exclusive as the post holder may be required to undertake other reasonably determined duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grading of the post.
