Job overview

The governors of Guildhall Feoffment Primary School in Suffolk are looking for a new Headteacher. This is a friendly, successful school, situated in the historic centre of the town of Bury St Edmunds, and the vacancy has arisen because the current Headteacher has been appointed to a headship in a large academy trust.

The school, which has a two-form entry and takes children from Reception to Year 6 with wraparound childcare, was judged 'Good' at an Ofsted inspection in February 2020 and is committed to a programme of continuous improvement. The current senior leadership team has introduced a strong ethos of research-led teaching and has grown a confident team of middle leaders able both to innovate and to share their expertise.

We are looking for an experienced, confident, and compassionate senior leader, who will continue this pursuit of excellence, and who will further develop the school as a learning community, harnessing the skills and imaginations of staff, parents, and children alike. You will be an excellent teacher yourself, and a proven leader with a successful track record delivering school improvement, inspiring staff with a sense of agency, and engaging positively with different stakeholders

Guildhall Feoffment Primary School has a mixed catchment and takes children from a wide range of educational, social, and economic backgrounds. We are committed to the concept that every child matters, and therefore to inclusive, adaptive teaching. We have high expectations, and a culture of equity, kindness, and respect. The school building has recently undergone a programme of extensive refurbishment, making it a pleasant and welcoming place to work and to learn.

We promote Mathematics Mastery, have a successful approach to phonics teaching and to reading in the later years, and teach literacy in all subject areas. We have good and growing links with the other primary and secondary schools in Bury and the surrounding area, and with the post-16 colleges. We also benefit from a knowledgeable and supportive governing body. Staff comments include: 'It is a lovely place to work'; 'Our staff work hard and care for each other'; 'Our children are inspiring and a joy to teach'.
