Job overview

Due to the retirement of our current, long-standing Head Teacher the Governing Body seeks to appoint a truly outstanding leader to develop the school from Good (Ofsted October 2017) to Outstanding and to maintain the focus on achieving excellent outcomes in an environment filled with Gospel values, the joy of learning and laughter.

St Wilfrid’s is a 2-form entry primary school situated in Burgess Hill at the foot of the South Downs National Park with good road and rail links. London is an hour away, Gatwick is 30 minutes and the coast and Brighton are 20 minutes. St Wilfrid’s is a feeder school to the Outstanding St Paul’s Catholic College which is also in Burgess Hill.

We welcome applications from practising Catholics who are either current Head Teachers looking for a change of school or an experienced Deputy Head Teacher ready to take the next step into Headship.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Committed to the Catholic ethos of the school and some-one who tries to live the values of the Gospel every day.
  • A highly effective and successful leader able to inspire our new leadership team of Deputy Head Teacher and 2 Assistant Head Teachers who were appointed in September 2018.
  • A strategic thinker able to achieve targets by having a clear vision and direction for the school.
  • Able to lead, motivate and inspire staff and children to achieve the highest standards.
  • Passionate about pastoral care, developing the whole child and embracing the school’s ethos and values.

We are able to offer:

  • Happy and well-motivated children who enjoy learning.
  • A dedicated and talented staff team who have high expectations of themselves and each other.
  • A Governing Body who play an active role in supporting the leadership of the school
  • A close relationship with our two parishes who play a key role in the life of the school.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. Please contact the school secretary, Amy Martin on 01444 235254 to arrange a mutually convenient time to visit.

Closing date: 17 January 2019.
Interviews: 14th and 15th February 2019.
