HEADTEACHER
Required from September 2023
Salary range L33-L43
Sheldon is a popular, high-performing comprehensive school which became a single academy trust in April 2011. The school is located in attractive parkland on the edge of the rapidly growing market town of Chippenham. Our students come from both the town and the surrounding villages; our intake reflects the diversity of local communities and we pride ourselves on an open, positive, inclusive and supportive culture across the school community. Building on existing informal collaborative relationships with neighbouring schools, we are now in the early stages of exploring the potential for us to set up a new Multi-academy Trust for North Wiltshire, in partnership with two other successful stand-alone academies in the local area.
The Board of Governors is now looking for a highly motivated, capable and enthusiastic leader to build on our successes and take the school forward in the context of the exciting developments in which we are engaged. This is an exceptional opportunity for a candidate with vision and outstanding leadership skills.
The successful candidate will:
• be committed to comprehensive education and able to articulate the challenges Sheldon may face
• be able to inspire, motivate and challenge our staff and students in line with our vision and core values
• role model collaborative leadership and team working at all levels
• be equipped with excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills
• be able to engage successfully with stakeholders, including parents, governors and the wider community
• demonstrate a sound understanding of strategic and financial management and the ability to innovate within financial constraints
• demonstrate through their professional record the experience and capability to lead the school
Further details of the school and the post are available from Mrs Kirsa Edwards by telephone or email, or from the school website, www.sheldonschool.co.uk.

Values and vision
Sheldon is an institution of high expectation and aspiration. It encourages children to develop academically, physically and spiritually through committed and dedicated teaching. It prides itself on being a place where unique individuals achieve their own aims. The school motto is "unity and loyalty", and Sheldon encourages all students to engage with different cultures and systems of belief.
There is particular progress for students in English and physical education, as well as creative subjects such as design and technology and art. A specialist school in science, sport and languages, Sheldon has multiple facilities for those subjects; the modern languages department, for example, has a frequently updated mobile library. The school newsletter, The Sheldon Standard, gives students the chance to submit articles – one of many opportunities available across the secondary school and sixth form.
