Job overview

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an inspirational and dynamic Headteacher to build on the improvements which have been so successfully implemented by our current leadership team. The ideal candidate will be a thoughtful leader who will share our Christian ethos and model our values of trust, resilience, patience, compassion, and kindness. These qualities underpin our drive to ensure an inclusive and aspirational culture, rich curriculum, dynamic learning environment and strong sense of community and belonging.

St Andrew’s was judged as requiring improvement, following an inspection in April 2018 and significant steps have been taken by our dedicated Senior Leadership Team and staff to address the areas identified as requiring attention. The School is beginning to demonstrate the extent of its future potential and is now able to continue to improve rapidly under new leadership. Alongside our improvement journey we are about to embark on a public consultation exploring the possibility of becoming co-educational from September 2021. We believe this may better serve our local community and offer an exciting opportunity for our School’s future and you as the new Headteacher.

There is no doubt that this role will be challenging. The successful candidate will need to continue the rapid improvement journey and be sharply focused on raising achievement for all our students, whilst potentially implementing the change to a co-educational establishment.

The candidate will:

• have a proven track record in educational leadership and school improvement.

• be a strategic thinker with a clear vision of success, focusing everything around the needs of our students.

• have the experience and resilience to lead, inspire and hold to account a skilled and committed staff team to deliver outstanding outcomes for our students.

• be approachable, supportive, and passionate about the wellbeing of our students and staff

• be able to engage effectively with all stakeholders.

If you think you have the skills, expertise, and personal attributes to steer our School forward through its next phase of development, we would be delighted to hear from you.

About St Andrew's C of E High School

St Andrew’s C of E High School is a co-educational CofE secondary school in West Sussex, serving pupils from the age of 11-16, situated in Worthing.  With a pan of 180 per year group, St Andrew’s is a small and community centred school in which every child is known and loved.  Having been graded Good in all areas by Ofsted in April 2023, the school continues on its rapid journey of improvement and growth.

St Andrew’s is a community school that has love at its core.  You see it in the relationships between staff and students; both in the classrooms and the corridors; and in the excellent pastoral care that every student is given. Students and staff alike have described being part of our school community as being like ‘family’; both giving and receiving unrelenting love.  Our core Christian values run through all that we do, both in daily life and in strategic development.

We have the highest expectations and aspirations for all members of our community, and accept nothing less than an individual’s best.  We recognise that we are all unique, with unique training and developmental needs – and we aim to give every staff member the best CPD to enable them to reach their career goals, no matter what that goal may be.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced, and enables all students to develop a love of learning alongside focusing on their academic rigour.  As we continue to grow, our enrichment offer grows with us – learning does not happen only within a classroom, and our extra-curricular offer continues to develop to reflect this.

We are driven to achieving excellence in all areas, with a keen focus on the narrative journey of the curriculum.  We firmly believe that every child can achieve excellence, and that every child has the right to an excellent education.

St Andrew’s is a community that continually seeks to improve, and therefore embraces change and new ideas.  There is so much impact to be made within our community, and we work hard to put them, our students, first in all that we do.
