We are seeking to appoint a talented and inspirational teacher of Health and Social Care who will have the opportunity to join the Social Science Department in a successful and well-respected school with a large 6th Form.  This role would be suitable for an NQT or a teacher with experience.

The successful candidate will join a well-resourced and vibrant Social Science Department which is housed in its own teaching block with excellent facilities.  This is a great opportunity to develop teaching skills within a friendly, well qualified and organised department which achieves excellent results. Social Sciences subjects have a large uptake at both GCSE and A Level.

Highams Park is a very successful co-educational 11-18 Academy converter with 1600 students on roll including nearly 400 in the 6th Form. We pride ourselves on being a comprehensive school that serves the local area and in which there is a strong culture of traditional values coupled with an emphasis on high quality, forward-thinking teaching and learning.

Please email the school on  Mrs Sharon Croft, HR Manager, or go to our website to find out more.

Please complete our application form (download from website) and return by midday Thursday 25th April 2019.

Early applications will be considered on receipt and interviews scheduled accordingly

The Department is effectively run and has 1 Psychology and 3 Sociology specialists.  As well as teaching Health and Social Care you may be asked to teach either Sociology or Psychology depending on the needs of the curriculum.  Staff are encouraged to share ideas regularly and there is a supportive atmosphere between members of the department.  The department has its own classrooms, all of which are well equipped and each room has an interactive whiteboard. Staff are encouraged to use these resources effectively and imaginatively. There is frequent support provided through training and the sharing of good practice.

For Health and Social Care, we follow the Edexcel specification, GCSE Sociology following the Eduqas specification and A Level Sociology and Psychology following the AQA specification Health and Social Care is a new subject that has been added to the curriculum at KS5 and is being offered for the first time in September 2019 at KS4.  The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to make a real impact with regards to this subject.

The Social Sciences Department provides an enjoyable, forward thinking and professionally supportive environment. Standards of achievement are exceptional, especially at A Level and the department plays a key role in contributing to our very positive whole school ethos. We value every student as an individual and continually strive to meet the needs of each child.
