Meadowcroft is an independent specialist day school for boys and girls aged from 5 to 19, catering for children with a wide range of needs in 3 sites across Wakefield.

Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.

We pride ourselves in steering children in the right direction, nurturing aspiration to progress them both academically and socially to encourage them to take pride in their achievements. Socially, we build confidence in our students so they are able to have a greater understanding of the wider community in which they live.

About the Group

We are part of the Acorn Care and Education Group and can promise you plenty of challenges, and a rich variety of opportunities to develop your career.

Acorn Care and Education provide education and care across 20 schools and 19 residential care homes nationally. Our vision is to build incredible futures by empowering vulnerable young people in the UK to be happy and to make their way in the world. Every day we improve the lives of thousands of young people, their families and communities through a relentless focus on caring and learning.

About the Role

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced High Level Teaching Assistant to join our close-knit team.

The HLTA will have the experience to complement teachers’ delivery of the national curriculum and contribute to the development of other support staff, pupils and school policies and strategies. To work collaboratively with teaching staff and assist teachers in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources for interventions. Also to supervise whole classes occasionally during the short-term absence of teachers.

We are looking for a HLTA to support for pupils, the teacher and the school in order to raise standards of achievement for all pupils (e.g. SEN, MLD, SLD, GT, all underachieving groups), by utilising advanced levels of knowledge and skills when assisting with planning, monitoring, assessing and managing interventions, and to encourage pupils to become independent learners, to provide support for their welfare, and to support the inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a Qualified HLTA, who wants to spend less time on paperwork and more time developing creative learning opportunities for the most reluctant and troubles learners.

No two days are the same at Meadowcroft so we want people who can work at pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and are motivated by working with children with complex needs. You will be motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children in a calm and engaging demeanour, whilst being resilient using an innovative style of teaching motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential.

Whilst previous experience of working in an SEN environment would be desirable, excellent skills in supporting pupils and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people;
  • Work in accordance with professional practice, statutory and legal requirements and the policies of The Meadowcroft School; Using a range of assessment and screening tools to both identify deficits in students cognitive and language skills and evaluate the impact of interventions delivered (by self and others)

Welcome to Meadowcroft School

Meadowcroft school is based on four sites, The Lodge, The Gallery, The Hub and The Works, each providing very focused care for the children we support. All our children have complex social, emotional and mental health needs and many have additional severe learning and communication difficulties. Most of the children we care for have struggled to engage in formal education, so our job involves far more than simply providing an engaging and creative setting for them to learn in. We come alongside our children, take an interest in their lives and help them to overcome barriers that prevent them engaging in education.

The staff at our school know each child well enough to be able to set ambitious, realistic targets and put in place a structure of support to ensure they achieve them. Success looks very different for each child, so we take time to build personal plans and celebrate the progress they make.

When our pupils leave Meadowcroft, we want them to have secured the skills and confidence they need to find sustainable employment; developed interests and hobbies to keep them motivated; and learnt how to make and sustain healthy relationships. With these key skills, we know our children can be healthy, happy, successful adults.
