Merton's specialist education support schools and services have combined to form Melbury College; a partnership that includes Melrose Primary and Secondary School, Canterbury Campus, Merton Medical Education Service (MMES), Cobham Court and Whatley Campus.



Melbury College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant and Pastoral Support Worker for our new provision Whatley Campus, opening in September 2022.


The successful candidate will be responsible for: 

  Work as a Teaching Assistant supporting learning and behaviour in lessons and
       unstructured times, fulfilling all duties as required by SLT

  Supervise pupil internal exclusions and external/internal examinations

  To lead on mentoring and particular interventions to ensure pupils make good progress

  Mentor pupils 1-1 or in small groups with regard to behaviour and learning 

  To assess and record students’ baseline literacy levels and to repeat these
        assessments as necessary when directed.

  To keep abreast of and share up-to-date theoretical knowledge and application in SEN
       to ensure pupils’ specific needs are met

  To supervise classes/small groups/individual students

  To provide pastoral support to students experiencing difficulties on a day-to-day basis

  To provide information, advice and structured intervention to enable students to make
       positive choices about their behaviour, attendance and social interactions

  To liaise with staff, parents and relevant outside agencies to provide appropriate
         intervention for students experiencing disruption to their learning

  To liaise with support staff and teachers to share strategies for support

  To develop strong links between the school and parents/carers/families

Working hours: 35 hours per week, term time only 


Annual Salary: ME7 £25,578 FTE, (actual): £22,050
