Literacy Intervention Higher Level Teaching Assistant
The governors of Darland High School are looking to appoint a permanent Literacy HLTA to work within our ALN department (Future Focus) to teach small group intervention classes to drive up standards of reading, spelling and writing. Our Literacy Intervention Level 2 team works with pupils typically with reading and spelling standardised scores of between 85 and 95 and is line managed by the ANCO. The post will also involve spending a few hours each week, working with small groups under the direction of our Dyslexia Resource teacher.
Our ideal candidate is someone educated to at least A level standard and with excellent literacy and communication skills. However, just as important as your academic qualifications is your ability to connect with young people and inspire them with confidence. Our Literacy Intervention team has a great deal of autonomy in the Future Focus department and working alongside the school’s Literacy Coordinator, are expected to plan and teach lessons and assess the progress of pupils attending weekly intervention lessons.
Darland High School is an 11-16 English medium comprehensive school with 850 students on roll. Serving a cluster of villages in between Wrexham and Chester, the school enjoys easy road and rail access to North West England and North Wales.
The school has a reputation for academic excellence, achieving results at both key stages, which are consistently above both local and national averages. Our Year 11 in 2017 achieved excellent results with 65% achieving at least 5 good GCSEs with English and Maths. We have close relations local community as well as with neighbouring schools, with whom there is a spirit of active curriculum collaboration. As a result of the improvements in the school, we are oversubscribed in most years. Our ALN department is a major strength of the school, attracting plaudits from Estyn and the Local Authority.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is contemplating entering the teaching profession, or for someone who is looking for development as a Teaching Assistant. If you need further information about the post please telephone the school and ask to speak to Mrs Janice Barnes, Business Manager.
