Brentwood College specialises in the education of students aged 19-22 years with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex needs and autism. We currently accommodate 21 high needs students who work towards developing life and work skills as they progress into adulthood.    

Brentwood school and college share a site and both organisations benefit from fabulous, purpose-built facilities including a hydro pool, specialist rooms, a soft play, a sensory light room and extensive grounds which provide opportunities for animal care, adapted bike riding, sporting activities, forest school and horticulture.

Do you have a passion for working outdoors and supporting young people with severe learning difficulties and autism to develop their skills in horticulture?

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to primarily teach horticulture skills to adult learners at Brentwood College. Horticulture is an integral part of our curriculum. We have wonderful outdoor space including raised beds, a poly tunnel, a greenhouse an outdoor classroom and an area for keeping chickens.  There are lots of opportunities for further development.

To be successful in the role you will need to have a vision for delivering a horticulture curriculum across college, be able to share the vision and make it happen! 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Development of a plan for the delivery of horticulture in Brentwood College

• Co-ordinating and delivering horticulture throughout College and Sixth Form; 

• Planning, assessing and recording student progress 

• Assessing and moderating students’ work to ASDAN criteria. 

• Pro-actively developing links with external organisations that can offer work experience opportunities and partnerships for our students

• Sharing skills and expertise with other staff at Brentwood.

We are seeking a tutor with: 

• A background/experience within horticulture or gardening alongside experience of working with young adults with severe learning difficulties and Autism

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and able to work as part of a highly effective team.

About Brentwood High School and Community College

Brentwood School is a Secondary School and College located in Trafford, Greater Manchester. The school provides places to around 100 pupils aged 11-18 in a co-educational setting, 30 of whom reside in the school sixth form, and all of whom have a Statement of Special Educational Need. The school caters for a wide range of learning difficulties and challenging behaviours, and offers provision for further education for some students aged 19-24 in the College. At Brentwood we acknowledge that every student has different strengths and weaknesses, interests and experiences and therefore the curriculum is adapted and differentiated to meet individual needs and circumstances. The curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced and relevant and includes the teaching of functional skills in every subject area.  Our aim is to equip each student with the essential skills that they will need for the future whilst ensuring their well-being.
