This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Housemistress / Housemaster to join one of the leading schools in the UK, to run a superb 13-18 girls’ boarding house, and to help shape the quality and experience of our boarding in what will be an exciting time of energy and change.
Uppingham is proudly a full boarding school and for our pupils’ experience to be as rich as it can be, we need to have the strongest possible cadre of professionals like you leading our boarding houses. In this pivotal role, you will be the principal adult in the life of a boarder, inspiring, instilling confidence and ensuring the safety and happiness of each pupil. It may be one of the most demanding roles in the School, however, it is also one of the most rewarding and stimulating.
The most important feature of the role is to identify and meet the needs of each and every pupil. Each boarder needs to be given a sense of community, inclusion and above all safety and security. All staff within the House aim to work collaboratively and thoughtfully to support the delivery of an outstanding boarding experience, including a comprehensive health and welfare service, for every pupil.
The person appointed will be a strong, dynamic character with warmth and charisma, pastoral experience of boarding (probably in a similar school), experience of boarding house management (for example as a deputy/assistant HsM), excellent subject knowledge, a strong academic honours degree, expert classroom management skills and rapport with pupils.
In return, Uppingham School offers several benefits such as a pension scheme, a 50% contribution to premiums for the School’s private health scheme, as well as free membership of the School’s dual-use Sports Centre and a school fee discount scheme for children of staff. We also provide family sized accommodation and provide assistance with reasonable removal expenses.
