Job overview

Le Régent is seeking to appoint Houseparents to be responsible for the Senior Boys’ Boarding House, from January 2022 at the latest - although an earlier start (ideally in September 2021) would be welcomed.

Founded in 2015, Le Régent is a rapidly developing Swiss boarding and day school with an international academic programme. Approximately 200  students from Switzerland and around the world are educated in an ultra-modern campus in the heart of the Valais Alps in the stunning ski resort of Crans-Montana. Le Régent has been under the guidance of Institut Le Rosey (www.rosey.ch) since August 2019.

Le Régent follows a rigorous academic programme in English in preparation for IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (where results are excellent) while nurturing the individual talents of each student with its diverse extracurricular offering, including sports, arts, music and mountain activities.

Although a day and boarding school, the slight majority of students in classes 8 to IB2 (UK years 9 to 13/US grades 8 to 12) are boarders and the role of Houseparents in one of the three boarding house (Juniors, Girls and Boys) is therefore an important one in setting the tone for the school spirit.

The Senior Boys’ Boarding House, accommodates about 35 boys. Although appointing a single Head of House is not out of the question, we would prefer to appoint a couple, as the partner would also be expected to play a major part in the running of the House and would be employed by the school.

The position would ideally suit experienced teachers with residential pastoral experience or current Houseparents. Although there is a tradition of teaching as much as a third of the regular teaching timetable (or about 60% of one timetable between the two Houseparents), this is not a requirement and is remunerated separately, depending on the subjects the Houseparents can offer and what the school needs. Applicants should therefore indicate which subjects they can teach and to what level.

Working with a small resident team as well as non-resident tutors, and managing the House under the direction of the Head of Pastoral, this is an important opportunity to work in an attractive alpine location.

Living accommodation consists of a pleasant and spacious three-bedroom apartment with exceptional views down to the Rhône valley below. Salary and conditions of work compare well with boarding schools elsewhere and full details will be sent to shortlisted candidates.

UK APPLICANTS

Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons (AFMP) between Switzerland and the EU no longer applies to the UK, and UK nationals are considered third-state nationals (who, contrary to most third-state nationals, do not require a visa in order to enter Switzerland). Unfortunately, regulations to obtain a work permit are considerably tighter for third-state nationals than they are for most Europeans; getting a job offer is just one step of many. Preference has always been given to Swiss nationals, foreign nationals with a Swiss residence permit (C, B, L, S, or F ) and EU/EFTA citizens/permit holders, where candidates are equally qualified;  unfortunately, this rule now applies to UK nationals.

RECRUITMENT PROCEDURES

Vacant posts are registered with our regional employment centre and advertised via the European Employment System (EURES), on social media, on our school website and on this platform.

We reserve the right to appoint the right candidate ahead of the closing date. Appointment to take effect from September 2021.

Located in Crans-Montana in the Valais canton, Le Régent’s Outdoor Education programme comprising frequent expeditions, wild camping, ski-touring and cross-country skiing, takes full advantage of its stunning location to provide students with the personal skills and understanding of the environment that will serve them well in the future.

Our boarding school in the sunny Swiss canton of Valais, is the ideal place for students to become all they can be amongst inspiring students and educators in a family-like atmosphere.

At the same time, Le Régent is proud of its commitment to contemporary pedagogy. It is an Apple Distinguished school and a large proportion of its faculty are accomplished and intelligent users of technology inside and outside the classroom. An accredited IB school, Le Régent paves the way to the most promising universities in the world while respecting each student’s specific interests and concentrating on their strengths.

Who students are today is of great importance to us. However, who they want to become and how they want to shape the world of tomorrow is even more important.
