North Heath Community Primary School offers a high quality educational environment in which children from 4 to 11 are encouraged and motivated to learn. At North Heath Community Primary we are committed to providing a welcoming atmosphere where staff and children work together to create a happy, safe, caring and stimulating learning environment in partnership with parent/s / carer/s, governors and the local community.
We enjoy good parental support, which helps us keep up high standards of behaviour and academic achievement.
Teachers prepare lessons so that they are challenging to our very ablest pupils, whilst at the same time, allowing other pupils to complete their learning successfully.
Pupils are taught in class groups though there may be some setting in the Upper Juniors for English and Mathematics.
Sometimes, we are able to enrol our able pupils on special Saturday courses, held all over the county. These courses can provide a wide range of learning from philosophy to drama, and science to art. School pays for these. Additionally, we are sometimes able to offer enrichment lessons to children who are particularly good at art or maths. We also work with other local schools to provide other enrichment opportunities.
Children who find learning harder are supported in small groups by teaching assistants and our Special Needs teacher.
School also runs 'booster' lessons and One to One Tuition to move on the learning of target groups where necessary.
Pupils learn French from Reception to Year 6.
Visiting instrumentalists teach guitar, flute and piano to small groups of pupils. There is a small charge for this.
Year 4 receive weekly lessons in clarinet from West Sussex Music Service. This is fully funded by the school.
In order to learn, children must feel safe and secure in school. Therefore, North Heath operates a policy of safe-recruiting in order to protect its children and keep them safe. The Child Protection Officer is the Head Teacher but all staff have a 'duty of care' towards children. The Head Teacher is required to report any doubts about a child's well being to Social Services.
We currently hold the Gold Artsmark, a Basic Skills Award, the Kitemark Award (excellent practice in Reception), a Level 3 Travel Award (one of only eight schools in the county).
Ofsted in 2017 judged School to be "a welcoming school with a calm, purposeful atmosphere".
We try to be a happy and thoughtful School. Come and visit us, and see what you think, we look forward to meeting you.
