Applications are sought for the following position: INDIGENOUS EDUCATION WORKER

Part time temporary, 18 hours per week for 2021 school year

Duties will include:

▪ General teacher assistance, organisation and resource preparation

▪ Working with students

▪ Assistance with playground duties

▪ Leading Cultural Group Experience with students

▪ Liaising with parents and local community organisations

Essential Criteria:

▪ Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (must provide proof)

▪ Must hold a current Working with Children Check clearance

Selection Criteria will focus on:

▪ An understanding of and commitment to Catholic ethos and values

▪ Ability to work as a member of a team

▪ Sound literacy and numeracy skills

▪ Ability to lead cultural groups

▪ Knowledge and appreciation of the ways students learn

▪ Sound ICT competency

▪ Preparedness to work with small groups of children

The Indigenous Education Worker will also act as a role model for students by encouraging them to take pride in all aspects of their schooling.

St Francis Xavier Primary School is an independent co-educational Roman Catholic primary school for kindergarten to year 6 pupils, and is located in the town of Ballina in New South Wales, Australia. 

The school was founded in 1892 by the religious institute known as the Presentation Sisters, and has continually expanded throughout the years.

The school has many excellent resources including multiple classrooms complete with Interactive whiteboards, a modern and fully resourced library, assembly hall, creative and performing arts facilities and netbook laptops.

Outside the school building is a multi purpose court, fitness circuit and running track, while sports participation includes football, swimming, athletics and cross country amongst its wide range.

Curriculum

St Francis Xavier Primary School teaches a broad curriculum in accordance with the NSW Education Standards Authority and covers the seven Key Learning Areas (KLAs) of English, maths, creative arts, PDHPE (personal development, health and physical education), science and technology, history and geography.

As a catholic school, religion is also high on the syllabus, while basic teaching of Japanese is offered to promote global mindedness in pupils.
