INDIGENOUS EDUCATION WORKER
Temporary / Part Time position
A position exists at St Joseph’s Primary School Laurieton (18.5 hours) for an Indigenous Education Worker.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:
- General teacher assistance, organisation and resource preparation
- Working with indigenous and non-indigenous students
- Assistance with playground duties
- Leading Cultural Group Experience with students
- Liaising with parents and local community organisations
- Coordination of Personalised Learning Plans for indigenous students
- Coordination of community events eg NAIDOC
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (must provide proof)
- Must hold a current Working with Children Check clearance
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- An understanding of and commitment to Catholic ethos and values
- Ability to work in close consultation and be supportive of the school leadership team
- Ability to work as a member of the school staff
- Sound literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to lead cultural groups
- Knowledge and appreciation of the ways students learn
- Sound ICT competency
- Preparedness to work with small groups of children
- Proven track record of good working relations with school. Staff, parents and/ or previous employers
The Indigenous Education Worker will also act as a role model for students by encouraging them to take pride in all aspects of their schooling.

St Joseph's Primary School is an independent mixed gener Roman Catholic primary school catering for kindergarten to year 6. The school has 11 teaching staff and is located in the coastal town of Laurieton in New South Wales, Australia.
The school has been providing Catholic education since 1951 and is part of the Lismore Diocese school system. It draws students from the communities and towns of Laurieton, Kew, Kendall, Bonny Hills, Lake Cathie, North Haven and Dunbogan.

Set in a stunning natural environment, the school boasts modern facilities and resources. It has roughly one computer per two pupils, and every classroom is fitted with an interactive whiteboard. Pupils can also have access to a school canteen.

Curriculum
The syllabus taught at St Joseph's adheres to the framework set by the New South Wales Board of Studies.
