The role

The Progress and Welfare Officer for the Sixth Form will be a vital role at Bacon’s College, supporting the Heads of Sixth Form and the Senior Leadership Team in ensuring the highest standards of attendance, punctuality and engagement with our young people. You will work closely with a diverse range of students, forming important and rewarding relationships with students who are engaging, ambitious and aspirational. The role is especially designed to support the ambitions and aspirations of young people, to monitor standards of behaviour and attendance, but also to develop important and professional partnerships with students as they complete their studies and look to make the next step in their journey, whether that be in the world of work or as they apply to university. You will play a key role in the creation of Personalised Learning Plans for Sixth Form students, as well as supervising the Sixth Form Study Area. You will work closely with the Heads of Sixth Form and support them in their roles, particularly in providing information to support interventions and support.  You will also work with our Careers Advisors, Exam Officer and a range of internal and external agencies to support our young people to realise their potential

About You

Working with young people is both rewarding and demanding so a good sense of humour and resilience is essential. You will need to be positive and empathetic in your interactions with our students, be able to communicate clearly, accurately and calmly (in both spoken and verbal contexts), and be able to form positive and professional relationships with a diverse range of students and colleagues. The role will require you to be able to manage a busy and diverse workload, to be able to prioritise and ensure the completion of tasks to deadline, so being able to work under pressure would be a definite advantage.

The ability to manage relationships appropriately is a key element of the role. You must be able to respect and work within the frameworks of keeping young people safe in education, recognising the primacy of safeguarding legislation, but also be able to demonstrate judgement in any interactions with students. It is important to be consistent, approachable and empathetic in your dealings with young people, in both personal and professional contexts.

You will need to be organised, and be able to prioritise and be adaptable – things change and move quickly during the school day which makes the role exciting and stimulating but it also requires you to be on your toes and be able to respond to issues and needs whenever and wherever they may arise.

Bacon’s is a rewarding place to work and the students are dynamic, interesting and full of personality.  Applicants who possess a range of good inter- and intrapersonal skills will find the role to be a good fit for their attributes.

United Learning

Bacon’s College joined United Learning in Spring 2018, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
