Job overview

We are looking for a qualified teacher to join our thriving academy in Peckham as Year 1 Group Lead. We are interested to hear from qualified, enthusiastic practitioners who have gained experience in KS1 year groups, and for the successful applicant we can be flexible on year group.

Your opportunity

You will be joining a hugely supportive team working closely across both Harris Peckham Primaries, who all work closely together to make sure every member of staff feels valued and is able to provide the best possible education for our children. You will also be part of a Federation established in developing practitioners and nurturing excellent future leaders, with unrivalled opportunities for progression; whatever your aspirations as a teacher, middle or senior leader, our Teaching School Alliance provides a range of bespoke courses and qualifications, including our Aspiring Leaders NPQML and NPQSL programmes to help you achieve your ambitions more quickly.

In line with the Government’s announcement, our academy is closed until further notice. However, during this period it is our intention to continue with critical recruitment for key positions starting in September 2020. In place of academy interviews, alternative options will be offered so that no one is at a disadvantage, and applicants should expect telephone or virtual interviews, with the possibility of onsite academy interviews only in special cases. We want to reassure applicants that effective measures have been implemented to ensure their health and wellbeing whilst on academy premises.

Thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time.

What we are looking for:

You will have responsibility for leading and managing a rich educational experience for your diverse class. You will work alongside your year group partner and other year group teachers from across both primaries to assess, plan and carefully orchestrate with your teaching assistant, the best provision possible resulting in all children making accelerated progress and reaching at least national standards. Recently we have worked closely with Harris Federation subject experts to design and implement a bespoke curriculum with excellent lesson plans and resources in order to reduce teacher workload.

We look for outstanding teachers who:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and an undergraduate degree
  • Have a proven record of raising standards in reading and writing.
  • Can accelerate progress and at least reach national standards.
  • Support vulnerable pupils to have full access to the curriculum.
  • Share our passion, commitment, drive, enthusiasm, and hardworking ethos.

About Harris Primary Free School Peckham

School summary

Harris Primary Free School Peckham opened in 2012 to meet the demand for high quality primary school places in Southwark, and now educates children from Reception to Year 6. We have a superb team of teachers and support staff, all of whom are experts in primary education. We are an academy that values and invests in staff, excellent training, development, and planned career progression. We are a team of ordinary individuals who genuinely enjoy working together to create extraordinary outcomes.

As well as focusing on helping our pupils become confident readers, writers and mathematicians, we will also be ensuring that, as our pupils progress through the school there is a range of music, drama and sporting activities for them to choose from.

We are proud to be part of a vibrant and supportive international community and are keen that parents and families play an active part in our school life.

Our building is smart and modern, and we are fortunate enough to have a lovely playground and excellent equipment and facilities.

Academy Ethos

Our aim is to make sure that, from the first day of their education, our pupils have a truly happy experience of school. This means teaching them to become confident learners and nurturing each child’s personality and character.

Whatever a child’s background or starting point, we want to make sure that they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills and knowledge necessary to succeed. Every lesson at our school is creative and there is plenty of time for children to think, to play, to discover and wonder.

Each child is taught in the way that suits them best and we step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested.

Our school is relaxed and comfortable but pupils know that good behaviour is expected of them and are taught to respect each other and their teachers. They are frequently praised and rewarded for trying their best and for being kind, hard-working and well-behaved.

Our school is friendly and welcoming and we always make sure that every pupil has at least one friend.
