Job overview
KS1 (Year 1) Teacher
Due to an unexpected number of additional enrollments Panyathip International School - The British International School in Laos, is looking for a Year 1 Teacher in Vientiane.
Panyathip International School is widely regarded as an ambitious school – ambitious for its students and its staff - as it develops and grows.
The School's Vision "Become the Best that You can Be" is its guiding principle and recent developments have shown what that means in practical ways. These include the opening of a purpose-built Primary Campus, within close proximity of our Kindergarten Campus which our Early Years children also use for Swimming, Sports’ day and other activities.
Each of our campuses is like a large family; students and staff are seen as individuals and classes are small allowing the team to have a strong collegial approach. Our students are enthusiastic learners.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is comfortable in teaching Year 1, who will encourage and nurture the young students so that they thrive and become confident learners. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of England and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
Whilst experience is preferred - we want teachers who are flexible, willing to learn but with passion for teaching and who will inspire our younger students - so if that is you, we encourage you to apply even if you are new to teaching. An understanding of differentiation as well as students for whom English is a second language will be advantageous.
For the right candidate this is a wonderful opportunity in which to grow professionally and enjoy living in a fascinating part of the world.
Vientiane is the capital of Laos which is separated from Thailand by the mighty Mekong river. The border with Thailand is not far over the 'Friendship Bridge' where there are further amenities.
Vientiane itself seems more like a large town rather than the seat of government. It is safe and the people are friendly. There are cafes and restaurants and a range of different cultural opportunities available in the city or nearby.
The airport provides easy access to neighbouring countries and within Laos, for example, the UNESCO World Heritage destination of Luang Prabang is less than an hour away by plane. (The really adventurous can travel there by road or river - though both take a little longer).
For those with a sense of adventure Vientiane is an ideal location to be - and this is a particularly good time to join us as 2018 is Visit Laos Year with lots of cultural and other events.
For the successful candidate our package includes a tax-paid dollar salary (paid in dollars and kip - the local currency), travel allowance, daily lunch and other benefits. Specific details will be discussed with those who are short-listed.
Police clearance and other formalities Panyathip International Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practices and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. All teachers appointed to Panyathip - The British International School in Laos, are required to provide criminal records checks. Further details will be provided during interview.
You can find out more about the school on our website : www.pislao.com or @PISVTE on Facebook.
Applications Please apply using the online form, providing the names and addresses of three referees and submitting your CV.
