Job overview

The Head Mistress of Lancing College Preparatory School at Hove, Kirsty Keep, invites applications for the maternity cover post of KS2 humanities teacher (0.6), which becomes available in November 2024. 

 

Reporting to:

The teacher will report to the Head of REP.

 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

These duties are not intended to be comprehensive and other tasks and projects will be undertaken at the request of the Head. 

  • Foster a love of learning in all children throughout the school, delivering innovative lessons. 
  • Deliver general humanities teaching at KS2.
  • Set and maintain good standards of discipline and behaviour inside and outside the classroom, encouraging the children to be kind and thoughtful.
  • Plan, present and mark work in a professional manner and in accordance with school policies.
  • Track and monitor pupils’ progress, developing programmes of support or extension for those who need it.
  • Ensure differentiation is appropriate, including provision for AG&T and SEND
  • Maintain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of curriculum developments and pedagogy.
  • Support the Heads of Humanities with all academic requirements, including catch-up clinics, book monitoring and lesson observation. 
  • Liaise with colleagues to develop cross-curricular opportunities, including trips and on-site events.
  • Be a form tutor at KS2, taking registration and overseeing the children’s pastoral care.
  • Play a full role in the extra-curricular life of the school.
  • Contribute to the school’s VLE.
  • Be an excellent role model for the pupils.
  • Fully support the ethos and aims of the school.
  • Complete any other tasks which the Head reasonably requests of you.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Graduate and qualified primary years teacher
  • Inspirational classroom practitioner
  • Good understanding of independent schools and their rationale
  • Good manner with parents
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Commitment shown in other areas eg Games / music / drama 
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills 

 

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching both Key Stages 2 & 3
  • Ability to be involved with the Games department (boys and / or girls)

  • Commitment and passion for teaching in general
  • Resourcefulness and flexibility
  • Desire to be fully involved in the life of the school
  • Ability to lead from the front and by example
  • Ability to see task through to completion
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines
