Job overview

Are you a class teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with SEMH needs? Are you nurturing, understanding and resilient? Do you want to feel valued, supported and part of a strong team?

Fern House School is a brand new special school for pupils aged 7 – 16. We promote and adopt approaches based on attachment theories and neurobiological research to provide our pupils with a supportive framework, which allows them to be heard and understood safely. Our highly adapted curriculum ensures that all pupils can engage in learning and achieve something to feel proud of. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working, class-based teacher who is open to learning a modern approach to teaching pupils with social, emotional, mental health needs. At Fern House School, pupils are engaged with a creative curriculum, taught by trusted teaching staff who are able to be flexible in their approach to meet the needs of the pupils and offer integrated sensory breaks for pupils when required. We have a shared, consistent whole school approach to behaviour management, which is clear, easy-to-follow and fair.

At Fern House School we understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with pupils and families to nurture growth and development of relational milestones such as, building trust and sharing enjoyment. Care and making connections are at the heart of our ethos and we work hard to ensure that all staff feel cared for too.

Staff well-being is a school priority, and we have recently reduced the school day for pupils to ensure that all teachers are given dedicated uninterrupted PPA time and lots of opportunity to reflect and share information with their team. We have embedded a ‘no marking’ feedback for learning policy, which allows teachers to give valuable feedback on progress whilst maintaining a healthy work-life balance. All staff are provided with a complimentary school meal every day to thank them for their hard work and all staff are given access to Perkbox – an app that provides discounts on many high street chains. We also provide our staff with attendance incentives!

We understand how important it is for teachers and pupils to have access to modern technology, which is why we provide all teachers with a laptop and all pupils with an iPad to enhance learning. We have our very own minibuses, which staff have the opportunity to be trained to drive, or to use them with an additional driver, to access learning opportunities outside of school. We provide quality training and development for all staff and as we are part of the Enfield Learning Trust, we are able to offer significant opportunities for professional development.

Our school will undergo exciting expansion works in the next few years, which will modernize and improve the site, but we will remain at the same location, which is perfect for commuters from London, Hertfordshire and Essex. Our school is ideal for candidates who travel on public transport (Turkey Street and Enfield Lock are our closest over ground stations), or with easy access to the M25, for those who travel by car.
