Job overview

Due to the internal promotion of the current postholder, we are seeking a dynamic and inspiring Lead of Geography to continue the exciting development of the subject at St Peters School. This role will consist of responsibility for KS3-5 Geography, as well as teaching Geography across the year groups. The department prides itself on providing a broad and inventive curriculum that is applicable to students in the 21st century. We go beyond the National Curriculum where we can, giving students the opportunity to study topics such the Anthropocene within year 8. We also try to provide different experiences for our students, with workshops such as Restless Earth, and Urban Plan being made available to them. The school’s location, 30 minutes north of Cambridge and 25 minutes south of Peterborough lends itself to many of our topics and case studies.

Humanities is a popular faculty within the school and, all students at KS4 choose a Humanities option from History, Ancient History and Geography. Geography is one of the more popular GCSEs within the Humanities options and this is also offered as an additional option, with a good number of students choosing both Geography and History. This success has led us to double the numbers of GCSE Geography students in the last two years, with expanding numbers going on to continue to study the subject at A level. We follow the AQA GCSE Geography specification.

The successful candidate will lead a small team of staff, working alongside other Leads of Department in the faculty and the Head of Faculty. We are looking for a motivated individual, who works strongly as part of a team, can support, and develop members of staff and builds good relationships with both staff and students alike. The geography department has a strong curriculum base, and this is a great time to join us and continue the development of our exciting knowledge and skills focused work.

The Humanities faculty is an innovative, experienced and collaborative team who strive to guide our students towards their goals. You will be joining a well-organised, supportive team of professionals who have a great relationship with each other. The department is well resourced, and staff are committed and hard-working. You will receive high quality support and CPD from expert colleagues who will coach and guide you through your professional development with a strong whole school focus on professional development and research informed practice. This is an ideal opportunity to work in a friendly and supportive environment and the Humanities department is definitely the place to do this.

We are a forward thinking and rapidly improving, “good” school that is creating a legacy of learning for our community. Our students Learn, Aspire and Exceed as they work with our highly skilled teaching and associate staff supporting and guiding them.

St Peter’s is part of The Cam Academy Trust which offers students and staff fantastic potential to collaborate, share and develop a wide range of teaching and learning across the schools in the trust. As a family of schools, we support, share and challenge each other to improve the future lives of all our young people.
