Salary: MPS/UPS/Highly Competitive
Contract term: Permanent

We are seeking to appoint a bright, tenacious and ambitious individual to join our Teaching and Learning Team from April 2019. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher of Computer Science and have a strong desire to assist other teachers in the classroom. There will also be an opportunity to lead within the Gifted STEM Stream, which is in its first year having opened in September 2018.

This post is significant, supporting and developing teaching in Computer Science and elsewhere within the Academy. It is a perfect step for someone looking for promotion but wishing to take a different route than Head of Department.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school of approximately 1450 students, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'good' by Ofsted in all areas in February 2016. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION and AMBITION. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Kitemark.

Our students continue to succeed at both GCSE and A level studies in Computer Science, with most of the A level students going on to study Computer Science at university.

The successful candidate will fully embrace our values of Respect, Determination and Ambition, and will have a working knowledge of how these will apply within a Secondary Academy context and within the role itself.

The leadership of the Academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons. To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the Academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

  • No unannounced observations
  • No lesson grading
  • 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
  • A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone. Our vision is to provide excellent education so that all young people are able to make a success of their lives and, if we are to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the key ingredient – you.
