Job overview

Rethinking education,

helping tomorrow’s citizens flourish.

Are you passionate about the teaching of modern foreign languages, and at a stage of your career in education where you are looking for wider experience and the chance to impact on the broader education system?

The role comprises Classroom Teaching at the University School, and Teacher Training (Secondary Phase) in partnership with the School of Education, University of Birmingham.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced classroom practitioner with a strong understanding of effective pedagogy in the teaching of modern foreign languages - to work in a shared role as a teacher, and a teacher trainer. Successful experience as a subject leader of MFL or other school-based middle leadership experience will be advantageous for this role.

University of Birmingham School, now in its eighth year of operation, an 11-18 all-ability School including a sixth form of 400 learners, was founded as an Academy Free School by the University of Birmingham – with many distinctive aims, including as a University Training School.

As a now fully established School, the post we are seeking to recruit to at this time involves broadly a 50/50 split between teaching classes in the School’s modern foreign languages department, and working in partnership with the University’s School of Education to deliver a range of requirements for secondary phase teacher trainees. These include subject specialist (modern languages) components and wider aspects of mentoring and support for ITE students.
