Job overview

A Lead Practitioner in an inspirational teacher for pupils and colleagues alike, with the track record to prove it. They are someone who is ambitious and highly motivated to lead others. The Lead Practitioner will do everything possible to raise the quality of teaching and learning in mathematics and in the wider school.

Swanshurst is an ‘Outstanding School’ for girls with over 1900 students on roll aged 11-19 years. We offer excellent support and CPD for staff at all stages of their career. In our latest inspection, Ofsted found pupils at Swanshurst to be “happy, well cared for and that they secure excellent academic and personal outcomes” they described the girls as “polite, respectful and courteous”. Needless to say, we are incredibly proud of them and of all our staff who contribute to the “purposeful learning culture within the school that characterises the work of staff and pupils”

The mathematics department at Swanshurst is a highly successful one; students make above average rates of progress. We would expect the successful candidate to teach mathematics to the full ability range at key stage 3 and 4. We also offer further mathematics in Year 11, Level 3 mathematical studies, A-level mathematics and A-Level further mathematics. Lead Practitioners are expected to contribute to the work of the department leadership team and to our professional growth curriculum for all teaching staff, through delivery of whole school CPD and instructional coaching.

How have we achieved our current strengths? Quite simply, we employ teachers who are as ambitious, passionate and dedicated. These amazing people work hard to ensure that our pupils make the best progress they possibly can. Whether they are the most able or those requiring additional support, every child deserves nothing less than the very best teaching.

Not surprisingly, there is a real buzz about our school. If you would like to be part of it – and teach children who genuinely want to learn – we would love to hear from you.
