Lead School Counsellor

(24 hours per week, term time)

Roedean is an extraordinary school, sitting within the South Downs National Park and overlooking the English Channel. It is not just the location, but our reputation for excellence in pastoral care, our strong academic focus, and our genuine belief in the importance of creativity and an all-round education, that makes Roedean unique.

We are seeking a remarkable and visionary person to lead our counselling team. You will be experienced and well qualified (BACP accredited or equivalent), but most importantly, you will have the girls’ aspirations and welfare at the heart of your vision. We are seeking someone who values kindness and generosity, who can build transformational relationships and who wants to make a difference to every individual, as an individual.

The successful candidate will have the enthusiasm, energy and experience to lead a high-quality counselling service to pupils experiencing a wide range of emotional problems. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with young people, and has an interest in them as individuals, ensuring that every pupil succeeds and gets the support and encouragement they need, as well as having the insight and communication skills to build strong relationships across the school. A clinical supervisor qualification would be desirable.

We welcome your interest in being part of our journey at a time of continued development.

Roedean is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

Please download an application pack from our website (www.roedean.co.uk/Vacancies) or contact Louisa Butler via vacancies@roedean.co.uk. Please note we do not accept CVs.

Closing date:  9am 13 May 2024.

Due to the need to appoint quickly we reserve the right to interview an appoint at any time.

Values and vision

The School was founded in 1885, and the founding sisters wanted to provide a “thorough, physical, intellectual, and moral” education. This ethos continues today, and Roedean provides a genuinely holistic education, in which all elements complement each other; this approach places a high value on all the experiences that happen beyond the classroom in sport, art, drama, music, and dance, as well as community outreach and partnerships.

The ‘Six Pillars’ of Roedean are to encourage healthy and active living, a strong academic foundation, an appreciation of sport, culture, and the arts, to build independence of thought and character, to build on skills and confidence, and to have moral and personal values.

ISI
