Lead Teacher of Expressive Arts (Music, Dance, Drama) (TLR3)

Responsibilities

The Quarry Bay School is seeking a Lead Teacher of Expressive Arts (Music, Dance, Drama) (TLR 3).

• The Lead Teacher of Expressive Arts will be an enthusiastic and exemplary classroom practitioner with a passion for performing arts. They will build upon the high profile and quality of music, dance, drama and individual, group and whole school performances at Quarry Bay School. They lead the continued development of this dynamic and valued aspect of the curriculum.

The Lead Teacher of Expressive Arts will further be expected to:

• work closely with colleagues to develop an Expressive Arts programme across the school (Y1-Y6) incorporating Music, Dance, Drama and performance

• raise the profile and quality of individual, group and whole school performances in Music, Dance and Drama

• teach music skills across the school

• coordinate and prepare students for concerts/ performances within the school and across the Foundation

• coordinate curriculum documentation

• support the school’s assembly programme

• coordinate the school choirs and orchestra 

• add value to our musically talented cohort of students and extend students with potential – including the development of creativity within students and opportunities for participation through the expressive arts

• coordinate the provision of peripatetic music teaching

• represent the school at ESF Curriculum Group meetings and lead across the Foundation

• work with all teachers to ensure the Expressive Arts programme has authentic links across the PYP programme of inquiry

• work closely with the Curriculum Coordinator (TLR 2, PYP Coordinator) to promote, enhance and develop the Arts across the school

• line manage and performance manage as/if required

• be responsible for areas of the QBS School Development Plan related to Expressive Arts

Requirements

The prospective candidate for the Lead Teacher of Expressive Arts post must be able to 

demonstrate the following essential criteria. He or she must:

• hold qualified primary teacher status

• be student-focused and set high expectations in terms of music and other expressive arts outcomes and deliver on those outcomes

• have recent and proven leadership experience

• have experience or the potential to build upon the school’s image and profile in terms the expressive arts with parents and the wider community

• have a minimum of 4 years teaching experience 

• show evidence of leadership of pedagogy and practice in expressive arts

• have evidence of the ability to successfully work as part of a team

• have the musical expertise and talent to add value to an already highly talented cohort of students 

• evidence of the ability to use technology to support and enhance learning and teaching

• have sound knowledge and understanding of assessment including the ability to analyse data to support student attainment

• have a knowledge and understanding of Individual Needs issues: including SEN, EAL and G&T

• have a positive and optimistic outlook and warm personality 

It would also be an advantage to any prospective candidate if they were able to demonstrate some or all of the following desirable criteria: 

• current position as a Music Coordinator/ Expressive Arts Coordinator or similar middle leadership post

• proven track record of developing or involvement in expressive arts across the primary phase 

• evidence of further professional study

• experience within an IB PYP curriculum framework

• experience of teaching across the primary phase 

• teaching experience in both home country and overseas
