Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic teacher of Modern Foreign Languages to lead our successful and ambitious department. Modern Foreign Languages enjoys a good reputation within the school, with GCSE being chosen by a good number of students. The department has recently expanded with the teaching of GCSE Spanish. A level numbers in French and Spanish are relatively small. The department boasts five well - equipped teaching rooms, some with interactive whiteboards, and a dedicated sixth form seminar room.

The person we are seeking will:

  • have the vision and drive to secure continued improvements in standards of student achievement across all Key Stages, including the progress of specific groups (such as Gifted & Talented and SEN);
  • be able to demonstrate proven leadership skills and a track record of inspiring and motivating students and staff;
  • be an innovative classroom teacher able to inspire students to enjoy Modern Foreign Languages both within and beyond the classroom;
  • be able to lead the work of subject teachers in creating a climate for learning in the classroom through high quality planning of lessons.


Little Heath School is a highly successful comprehensive school (1610 on roll, including 320 in the Sixth Form) situated in a pleasant semi-rural setting to the west of Reading, with good access to road and rail links. As a school, we pride ourselves on our Continuing Professional Development Programme. Our CPD programme offers a choice of Teaching and Learning themes and staff are encouraged to become involved in leading training. Our personalised twilight programme follows an action research model. We encourage our teachers to engage with and share research and new ideas in education, as well as seeking out opportunities to showcase good practice and to collaborate with other members of staff in order to develop their practice.
