Contract type: Full Time
Salary: MPR6 - L5 (£38,963 - £47,878)
Contract term: Permanent
Suitable for NQTs: No

Richmond Park Academy (RPA), is part of the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) group and is situated in East Sheen, close to Richmond Park which is the largest of the capital’s eight Royal Parks and the biggest enclosed space in London.  Richmond, Kingston and the West End are all between 15 and 30 minutes journey from the school and our proximity to central London means that students can benefit enormously from the vast range of social, cultural, sporting and academic opportunities that we are able to access.

Our student body is diverse, exciting and talented – and the same is true of our staff.  We put huge emphasis on professional development, must of it in-house, and are proud of the high number of good and outstanding teachers who work in our school.  We are also noted for our ‘can do’ attitude.  We are keen, always, to encourage new and/or young staff to make their mark as soon as they are ready.

The school completed a £10m rebuild and refurbishment programme, including the introduction of a 6th form in 2014. Our 2018 Ofsted reported that we were a ‘good’ school in all categories.  The inspectors judged: “The principal is respected across the school and has communicated a clear vision for the school to all members of the school community. He has empowered the leadership team to raise standards and hold staff to account for pupils’ outcomes through a relentless focus on improving teaching and learning. Staff feel well supported and happy to be part of the drive for improvement”.

We are looking for a SENCO-qualified Leader for our Specialist Resource Provision with Assistant Principal responsibilities. This provision is sponsored by Achieving for Children (London Borough of Richmond) and will cater for 10 students with social emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and associated learning difficulties across KS3 and KS4. Students will have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or, rarely, will be undergoing statutory assessment for an EHCP. The objective of the SRP is to enable students to be included in the mainstream school and make progress in their learning to the highest academic standard.

Pupils will benefit from high quality teaching in a mainstream, co-educational school and have access to specialist intervention from specialist teaching staff, to ensure they are full equipped with essential life skills and be prepared for the world of work when that time arrives. The state of the art provision, which is under construction, to open in September 2019, will have well equipped and maintained teaching areas, with additional accommodation which can be used flexibly to support individual work and to provide a quiet oasis/time out for Students where necessary. This is an opportunity for an experienced SENCO to consider a move to Leadership, depending on experience and skills.
