Job overview

Following the successful introduction of our Learning Hub in 2020, we are looking to further expand our provision. This is an exciting dual role, providing day-to-day support for pupils working in the Learning Hub alongside mentoring of Sixth Form students with an academic focus. The role will include some lunchtime and after school sessions. We are looking for a member of staff with excellent communication skills and the expertise to identify and reduce barriers to learning. Experience in a school setting would be an advantage but above all we are looking for the right person to work with our young people.

The Learning Hub role will include liaison with departments and provide structured support for students who need to continue their learning beyond the classroom. This will include support for students accessing modified timetables and students who are not in their normal timetabled lessons for a period of time. The Learning Hub is not linked to provision for students who have been internally excluded from lessons; it is typically used to support students in the short term to help reduce barriers to learning so they can go back to their usual classroom environment and thrive amongst their peers. This might, for example, include a student who is returning to school following an illness. It is overseen by our Learning Hub Lead Teacher.

The equivalent of two days a week will be designated for Sixth Form mentoring, linking closely to the Sixth Form Achievement Team in establishing priorities, working with students and evaluating impact. The successful candidate will promote positive learning attitudes and inclusion, liaise with staff and parents, take opportunities to continue their professional development, and carry out a range of duties to support our students’ social, emotional and academic needs.

The working hours will be agreed to meet the needs of the student cohort; you will need to be available to start at 8.30am and be available to finish at 4.15pm on agreed days. A working day will usually be 6.5 hours plus a break for lunch.
