Job overview

Following the successful introduction of our Learning Hub in 2020, we are looking to further expand our provision and have a rare, exciting opportunity to join our growing support team. We are looking for a member of staff with excellent communication skills and the expertise to build effective relationships with students, in order to reduce barriers to learning and support them in reaching their potential. Experience in a school setting would be an advantage but above all we are looking for the right person to work with our young people.

The role is a learning support role, where you will be work closely with students from Year 7 to Year 13 on a 1-1 or small group basis. You will work with students to follow their usual timetabled lessons and inspire and motivate them to overcome individual challenges. In the majority of cases this will involve offering support and mentoring during their transition back to timetabled lessons. The Learning Hub role will include liaison with departments and provide structured support for students who need to continue their learning beyond the classroom.

The Learning Hub is not linked to provision for students who have been internally excluded from lessons; it is typically used to provide support for students in the short term to help them to return to the classroom, or to provide academic mentoring and guidance for post 16 students. This might, for example, include a student who is returning to school following an illness. It is overseen by our Learning Hub Lead Teacher. The Learning Hub provision is in an exciting stage of its development, and you will have the opportunity to work alongside the Learning Hub Lead Teacher to help shape the strategic direction of our provision to help meet the needs of Kind Edward VI School students.

The daily working hours will be agreed to meet the needs of the student cohort; a typical day could be either 8.30am to 3.30pm or 9am to 4pm. A working day will usually be 6.5 hours plus a 30-minute break for lunch.
