Who we are looking for

We are a new forward thinking Autism Specific Specialist Free School (opening Jan 2020) seeking Learning Mentors with a passion for improving life outcomes for every learner.

The NAS Academies Trust (NAS-AT) in partnership with Lambeth Local Authority is to establish a special free school (NAS Vanguard School) for autistic students. As with all NAS schools, the pedagogy will be informed by researched and established methods of best practice in teaching autistic young people.

NAS Academies Trust currently includes two other free school, Church Lawton School & Thames Valley School. It has been designated that Thames Valley School & Vanguard School will be partner schools, under the leadership of an Executive Principal and Executive Business & Finance Manager.  Both schools will work collaboratively to maximise the standards, curriculum offer, training and employment opportunities. This new role will enable you to influence & contribute to the future of the NAS Academies Trust schools.

Vanguard School opens January 2020. We are looking for a hardworking and committed team of specialist teachers and support staff and a commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes for our students.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the school’s development where you will be working closely with the teaching staff to support small classes of young people with a diagnosis of Autism.

We aim to deliver the highest level of education and experiences to ensure the best life chances become a sustainable reality for every young person (on an individual needs led basis). Together, we will create a safe, positive and structured environment in which every young person is respected and encouraged to achieve independence (through academic, employment and personal skills development).

To be considered for this role, you will be a dynamic, passionate practitioner who can demonstrate a real commitment to the education of children with autism and ideally have a proven track record of supporting learners whose needs lie on the autism spectrum.

Being a Learning Mentor takes bravery, patience and commitment. But working with autistic people gives so much more in return.

We need you to be resilient, supportive and sensitive towards the needs of autistic people.

Along with a host of benefits – from shopping discounts to flexible working and a competitive pension scheme - we’ll make sure you get excellent autism-specific training to help further your career.

You may have a personal connection, a desire to work with or real life experiences working with autistic people. If you share our Values and are willing to make a difference to the lives of autistic people, we’d love to hear from you.
