We have an exciting opportunity for a Learning Mentor to join our Academy.
We are part of the David Ross Education Trust which is a family of 34 primary and secondary schools. As a staff colleague you will access CPD available locally as well as accessing leading teaching and leadership programmes through our Trust networks. Our opportunity
You will liaise and work closely with external agencies to support pupils and their families as part of the mentoring process. This will involve writing reports and records to provide accountable and quantifiable effectiveness of our mentoring approach.
This role is heavily involved with safeguarding and supporting the DSL.
There is regular contact with parents and carers including those with pupils who have been identified as under-performing or referred for barriers to learning. You will also liaise with teaching staff and SENDCo, to monitor progress, and the attendance lead, carrying out home visits where appropriate.
You will need to respond to emotionally demanding behaviours and situations. You may arrange and run group sessions for pupils with common needs, to support the mentoring process.
About you
We are looking for:
Previous experience of providing classroom/behaviour support, working with primary school children
Previous experience of safeguarding procedures including Child in Need and Child Protection reports, paperwork and meetings.
Experience of establishing good relationships with children
Experience of working creatively with children to identify strengths and development within children
Experience of administrative procedures with evidence of capability to work on own initiative
Educated to GCSE level grade C or above, including English and Maths, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience at that level
Demonstrate empathy, communication, listening and interpersonal skills when dealing with children, colleagues and parents/carers
Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude to working with challenging children
Awareness of GDPR and confidentiality procedures
Knowledge and understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education and demonstrate an awareness of child protection issues and procedures, local services for young people and their families
