Description • Assisting with the initial identification of students with special educational needs;
• Working collaboratively with the principal, learning support coordinator, class teachers, parents and students to develop appropriate assessment strategies, identify resources and implement effective strategies to create learning and social opportunities for students with special education needs;
• Liaising with the relevant schools particularly in relation to transition periods;
• Collaboratively designing, implementing, modifying and evaluating Personalised Plans with class teachers and other relevant staff;
• Contributing to the preparation and maintenance of documentation required under the legislation in line with privacy and confidentiality obligations, for example, student files;
• Participating in Personalised Planning meetings;
• Attending regular Learning Support meetings.
Position Requirements Be able to demonstrate:
• An interest in supporting students with additional needs, including twice exceptional students
• An understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005)
• An understanding of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
• Excellent workplace communication skills
• High level organisational skills
• An ability to employ curriculum differentiation strategies
• Knowledge of assistive technology
• An ability to work with a team of professionals
• An ability to respond to change
• Experience in meeting the needs of students with challenging behaviours
Essential Criteria The applicant should:
• A relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education
• Possess relevant tertiary qualification in Special Education or be willing to complete the Mini-Certificate in Special Needs
• Have experience teaching in a Secondary School
• Be qualified as a four year trained teacher
• Record current NESA and Working With Children number on application Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA.
