We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Teaching Assistant to join our secondary school's inclusive education team. The role of the Learning Support Teaching Assistant is to provide individualized support and assistance to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have equal access to education and opportunities for academic and personal growth. Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Student Support: Work closely with students who have identified learning needs, including those with special educational needs (SEN), disabilities, or learning difficulties. Provide personalized academic support, guidance, and assistance to help students overcome challenges and achieve their educational goals.
  • Classroom Assistance: Collaborate with teachers to support inclusive teaching practices within the classroom. Assist in planning and delivering differentiated instruction by adapting materials, tasks, and resources to meet the individual needs of students. Foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment that encourages active participation and engagement.
  • Personalized Learning Plans: Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs) for students with additional learning needs. Collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, and the school's SEN coordinator to ensure that the plans are tailored to the individual student's requirements and monitor progress accordingly.
  • Behavior and Emotional Support: Provide emotional support and guidance to students, fostering positive relationships and promoting well-being. Assist in managing challenging behaviors and implementing behavior management strategies, following the school's policies and procedures.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assist in assessing students' learning and progress, including formative and summative assessments. Collaborate with teachers to gather data and observations to inform instructional planning and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Contribute to the preparation of progress reports and participate in parent-teacher meetings as required.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with teachers, the SEN coordinator, and other professionals involved in supporting students with additional learning needs. Maintain clear and effective communication with colleagues, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to student support.
  • Resources and Materials: Assist in sourcing and adapting learning resources and materials to support the individual needs of students. Utilize appropriate assistive technologies and tools to enhance accessibility and accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Safeguarding and Welfare: Comply with the school's safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the well-being and safety of students at all times. Be vigilant in identifying and reporting any concerns or signs of abuse, neglect, or emotional distress.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification is required. A relevant degree or certification in education, special education, or a related field is desirable.
  • Knowledge of different learning needs and strategies to support students with diverse learning requirements.
  • Familiarity with special educational needs (SEN) legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents/guardians, and external professionals.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in using technology and educational software/tools to support teaching and learning.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunities within the school community.
