The school wishes to appoint a first class librarian to manage the day to day operations of the library. You must be a qualified Librarian or working towards qualified Librarian status, with at least one years’ experience of working in a library, preferably in an educational context dealing with young people. You will need to have good communication skills, a flexible and positive approach and the ability to work under pressure.

The hours to be worked each day are 8.30am to 5.00pm. The post is a permanent position, term time only plus 2 extra weeks which will be split between the end of the Summer term and immediately prior to the start of the Autumn term.

The school library has an important place in promoting literacy and a love of reading within the school. The library is open from 7.30am each morning for students to embark upon personal study and to renew reading books. For the rest of the day, the library is used for a mixture of English lessons and 6th form personal study. After school, younger pupils return to embark on further independent study.

The successful candidate will be chiefly responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Library. As well as running the administrative aspects of the position, we would expect the post-holder to have a genuine desire to work with both teaching staff and students. The Academy librarian has a unique and essential specialist role to play in supporting students’ learning and their development into effective, independent learners. This support will involve both providing curriculum resources and also contributing to the raising the profile of the library and reading across the school.

GCA has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and has safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. It is committed to the principle of equal opportunities; we welcome all applicants and value the diversity they bring.

Please download the application form via the TES website or the school’s website and email your completed application to voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk.

The closing date for this post is Tuesday 5th February at 3pm.

Please note that we reserve the right to close or extend this position depending on application numbers, therefore we would urge candidates to submit an application at their earliest opportunity.
