An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Library Assistant to provide a library and information service for staff and students at our Crystal Palace Park Centre library.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to contribute to the development of the Library and the services it offers. Moving forward, we are looking to develop the range of activities to support students to develop their literacy, research and study skills. We also offer an excellent programme of Continuous Professional Development. The post may occasionally involve some evening work.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for running the library at our Crystal Palace site and carrying out duties related to the library function.
 
The ideal candidate will be educated to Level 3 or above with a good level of IT skills and experience of using computerised library systems. You will have experience of working in a library or educational environment and working with young people.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising students and staff using the Library and its facilities on a daily basis. To include support with IT, printing, photocopying, scanning and taking monies.
  • Dealing with enquiries from students and staff.
  • Carrying out all Library administrative routines: issuing and return of books, reservations, overdues, shelving and tidying, periodicals management and stock takes.
  • Liaising with the Libraries Coordinator over all aspects of Library service provision and user queries as necessary.
  • Liaising with the Centre Manager over the maintenance and upkeep of student IT facilities and other technical queries.
  • Assist with the issuing of laptops to students and staff.
  • Providing Library and Moodle (VLE) inductions for students.
  • Receiving and receipting student assignments.
  • Support students with literacy, study skills and assignment completion.
  • This may include reading support, research skills and 1:1 support with referencing and bibliographies.
  • Promote the library with the creation of displays and information.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the library area on Moodle, the college VLE.
  • Supervise students undertaking Maths and English assessments.

Required Skills and Experience required:

  • Experience of working in a library or educational environment
  • Experience of using computerised Library systems
  • Experience of working in an administrative role
  • Experience of working with young people
  • Good level of IT skills including a working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience of delivering programmes to support students with literacy and/or study skills is desirable
