Job overview

Institute of Education Department of Psychology and Human Development

Part Time: 21.9 hours per week (60% FTE)

UCL Centre for Inclusive Education (CIE) is a collaboration between local authorities (LAs), federations and teaching schools and UCL Institute of Education. The Centre was established to provide consultancy, professional support and development for teachers, support staff and managers in schools and local authorities working on special educational needs, disabilities and vulnerable children and young people. It has a national profile built on the principle of strategic partnership, involving colleagues in the Institute and national bodies such as the Department for Education, Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and voluntary organisations working in the field of special educational needs and disability (SEND).

The Centre provides:

  • Centrally and locally based development and training
  • Major service conferences
  • Professional learning network groups, resources and publications
  • Knowledge exchange and consultancy on a wide range of topics
  • Programmes accredited within the Institute’s framework.

The successful candidate will have a prominent role in coordinating and contributing to one of the IOE's flagship knowledge exchange projects, providing consultancy and training on the Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants (MITA) programme.

The post holder will develop, deliver and coordinate our programme of school workforce and CPD activities as well as contributing to the wider activities of the Centre for Inclusive Education. The post holder will work with local authorities, teaching school alliances and others to deliver our strategic course for school leaders (MITA Direct) and our CPD course for teaching assistants and teachers (Maximising the Practice of Teaching Assistants). You will also contribute to our capacity building activities in the school system, including licencing MPTA trainers and skilling up systems leaders to carry out peer to peer Teaching Assistant deployment reviews.

The post is available immediately and is funded until 31 August 2020 in the first instance.

The post holder must have experience of leadership in an education setting, for example as a senior school leader of a senior LA advisor and have a successful record of implementing and overseeing sustainable strategic, organisation change. It is a considerable advantage if this includes school workforce reform/improvement or improving SEND provision.

The post holder must demonstrate a commitment to a core aim of the Centre for Inclusive Education: to improve the educational and life chances of children and young people, especially those in vulnerable populations by supporting the leaders, teachers and support staff that work with them.
