Tolaga Bay Area School is a culturally diverse and inclusive school, with a commitment to the achievement of their Maori students. The school’s motto is ‘Unrelenting Achievement with Attitude', and this is upheld through the range of experiences and opportunities to learn. There is a focus on fostering and promoting students’ culture, tikanga, and celebrating their whanau, community and iwi.
You will be joining a small, supportive team of teachers who share a commitment to professional development. They are open to change and accept the challenge of finding new ways of working. You will be the only mathematics teacher at the school and therefore you have the ability to develop the mathematics curriculum to maximise student achievement. With a role of 260 students from Years 1-13, you will have the ability to lead small classes to their full potential. A management unit may be available, and there is a school house to rent.
The school values the incorporation of modern technology across their curriculum and within their facilities. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards or multimedia projectors and screens, and they have a number of specialised learning spaces within their school. In addition, students have a 1:1 ratio of a Chromebook or IPad, and all teachers are allocated a laptop.
A stunning school setting and localised curriculum has students as active participants in environmental sustainability programs in the community. They represent among the largest improvements in NCEA pass rates for any school in the country, and have many initiatives in place to continue their growing success.
Tolaga Bay Area School is flanked by the river and the bay, both of which are weaved through the curriculum. Described as the ‘hub of the community’, the school is a focal point for many events, activities and initiatives. A 40 minute drive from Gisborne, the stunning coastal Tolaga Bay is home to New Zealand’s longest wharf. The population is predominantly Maori, and the bay is a centre of the Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti iwi.
