Cambian Wing College has a proud and successful tradition of supporting students between the ages of 16-25 who have High-functioning Autism and Complex Needs to gain valuable life skills, qualifications and confidence to support their onward journey towards independence. The Head of College and her team recognise this success and want to offer this opportunity to a wider range of young people and adults ad part of the ongoing developments that are taking place across all areas of the College.

We are looking to recruit a committed, empathetic and engaging Maths Teacher that will deliver a model of positive behaviour support to empower young people to make a positive change in their lives, gain self-regulation skills and develop greater lifelong independence.

Applicants will have a flexible, creative and practical approach to learning and be responsible for developing individualised/ small group programs. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The successful maths teacher will be a part of a large supportive team who work across Education, Care and Therapeutic services supporting each other's practice to develop specialist services to those with additional and complex care needs including: Autism, Asperger's and associated difficulties. Candidate Profile

The role and responsibilities of a Teacher is to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Headteacher. Teaching and assessing effectively, taking responsibility for professional development and create opportunities for students of all ages and abilities to achieve well.

  • Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed for each individual student;
  • Providing clear structures for learning to maintain pace, motivation and challenge;
  • Ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time;
  • Ensuring students acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subjects taught;
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient development of classroom support;
  • Mark and monitor student's work and set targets for progress;
  • Plan, teach and assess Maths up to Level 3;
  • Act as an education tutor for a tutor group and carry out related responsibilities.

 

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of specific subject area(s) to be taught;
  • Knowledge of the learning process and good educational practice;
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and/or special needs relevant to the establishment;
  • Ability to plan and prepare educational activities to meet specified needs and review their effectiveness;
  • Ability to demonstrate a range of good teaching techniques;
  • Ability to attend work punctually and reliably;
  • Ability to form and promote positive relationships with young people;
  • Ability to accurately assess learners' needs and achievements;
  • Ability to manager the learning environment effectively;
  • Ability to provide learners with effective support;
  • Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and promptly, at all levels, verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to relate to other staff in a way that is likely to enable, to motivate and to support them;
  • Ability to promote a non-aversive approach to managing challenging behaviours and to challenge bad practice;
  • Ability to carry out appropriate physical interventions where necessary to safeguard yourself and others (after training);
  • Ability to evaluate own performance, identify own training needs, engage in continuous personal development;
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems as effectively as is possible.
    Applicants must hold QTS or TRN - we are looking for a qualified experienced Teacher.
