Job overview

The Highcrest Academy seeks an inspirational, innovative and charismatic teacher looking to join a happy, motivated and experienced team of Maths specialists. Maths is a successful department, constantly striving to meet the needs of our students, and has a commitment to continuous school improvement.

Your love for the subject will be infectious to our students, and you will continue to develop the strong hold our school community has with Maths. You will have autonomy in your teaching and be provided with an outstanding CPD package for personal development.

As a committed and innovative teacher, you can look forward to teaching KS3 and KS4, with opportunities in KS5 for the right candidate to teach A Level Maths and Further Maths.

This role represents an opportunity to join a supportive and diverse department at an exciting time of development at The Highcrest Academy. The role can be tailored to suit an ECT seeking their first teaching position or an experienced teacher looking to develop their experience in a new environment.

About Us

"Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable..." Ofsted 2020

Highcrest offers both an excellent induction and support programme for ECTs and an innovative and extensive CPD package for more experienced teachers. This provision of training has been praised as outstanding by an external assessor and highlighted in the local press. For ECTs, we provide weekly CPD meetings with experienced members of staff, time-tabled and protected Mentor Meetings on a weekly basis, subject knowledge time with departments and an extensive personalised CPD plan.

"The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere" and "Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school's motto of 'aspire and achieve'." Ofsted 2020

All who work at the academy reinforce our six virtues linked to our motto (Ambition, Sensitivity, Purpose, Integrity, Resilience and Eloquence), helping us instil a culture of excellence that runs throughout every strand of our Academy.

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together. There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.

A thriving and friendly academy in the heart of the community, where your well-being is paramount. We offer staff recognition schemes, free gym and staff sports teams, plus a paid Well-being Day for all staff. There is also the possibility of shared staff living accommodation and on-site parking.

How to Apply

Are you a team player, passionate about education and social mobility? Do you want to be a pivotal part of improving opportunities for students and increasing their learning and social experiences? Do you want to work in an environment which prioritises staff and student health and well-being? Then this is the place for you!

Closing date: 20th May 2024.

Please note we will be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis and may close the advert early should we receive an exceptional candidate, so we recommend applying early.

The Highcrest Academy is fully committed to safeguarding children (polices on web). All members of staff are in a "regulated" role under the Vetting & Barring Scheme and have to be DBS cleared prior to employment.

The Highcrest Academy is a vibrant, happy school in which every student is given the opportunity to develop their talents and to flourish as individuals. We are relentless in our pursuit of building a cohesive culture and curriculum that matches the varied needs of our students.

Our motto, ‘Aspire and Achieve’ is central to our philosophy. We are committed to making sure that every student makes outstanding progress and succeeds both academically and in terms of their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Indeed, we value a strong work ethic and aim to develop, sometimes hidden or unsuspected talent, into fruition.

At Highcrest, we are committed to setting high expectations for the conduct of our pupils and believe it is crucial for there to be an established culture in which all are able to excel. We want all the children who come to the academy to enjoy their learning and to become thoughtful, articulate, confident and responsible members of society.

Our personalised curriculum is enhanced by numerous extra-curricular opportunities, community and business projects, national and international competitions and a thriving House System. This encourages staff and students of all ages to work together.

The Highcrest Academy is the only all-ability academy in Buckinghamshire and is a culturally diverse, over-subscribed school, making it a fantastic place to teach. There are approximately 1000 students on roll, including Sixth Form. We know from pupil surveys that students are proud of our school and, when parents have been surveyed, the level of parent satisfaction has also been exceptionally high.

We are very aware that The Highcrest Academy is part of a community and we work hard to instil a sense of local and global responsibility. This means that students take part in many activities which enhance the local community, and have a real understanding of their role in improving the work community.

Our mission is to create a positive, secure and happy learning environment where all students experience success, friendship, respect and self-worth; where students value and celebrate the diverse talents and cultural heritage of all, and achieve their full potential in becoming responsible citizens, respecting the rights of other and contributing to our society.
