About the Opportunity

At The Peak Academy, we are passionate about opening up opportunities to develop adolescent minds of students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. No child should miss out on the opportunity to build on physical and mental skills that will allow doors to open for them in the pursuit of a successful adulthood, whatever their background.

We at The Peak Academy have our very own garage for vocational learning in Mechanics and it is a popular subject for our students; allowing for expression and thought therefore, we are looking to recruit an innovative and resourceful Mechanics Teacher, be you unqualified or qualified; ECT or experienced but with the passion and ability to inspire our students to develop their creative natures

Here at The Peak, we operate as an extended family unit. We work hard but we work together always as a team, whenever we need each-other. Our Academy is not mainstream, so we are looking for someone who loves to teach their subject, but has the flexibility to “muck in” whenever needed. You will be part of daily, supportive meetings and if you ever have a bad day (we all do), you will have the support of your team to lift you up again!

We believe thoroughly in a healthy work-life balance. We are structured alternatively, so we don’t do PPA time unless there’s an opening for it, everyone in the team joins together on break duty but at 1pm on a Friday when all the work is marked and your desk is ready for next week – go home! Have some down time or spend it with loved ones. Teaching in an alternative environment requires an alternative approach to teaching, but we’re looking for someone who has the understanding of SEMH to take this subject to new heights within our Academy, for our students who are eager to learn!

About You

BTEC, City of Guilds or equivalent certified in Mechanics

Previous or current experience teaching students of secondary and/or SEMH background

Previous experience testing vehicles

Have good manual dexterity

Ability to diffuse students under stress and approach teaching and learning through other dynamics or angles

Further details on our exciting opportunity can be found on our supporting, downloadable job description and person specification alongside our benefits booklet and Little Green Book of our ethos and values.
