Do you enjoy supporting children at play and are you available to work at lunchtime?

Hilltop Primary School is a large and popular school which enjoys an excellent reputation within Medway . The school was officially opened in 1967 and was initially a one form entry school. However, the school has expanded due to popularity over the years and now is a two form entry school with no mixed age classes. The school benefits from an extremely experienced staff.

As a result of academic standards, the school received an Achievement Award from the DfE for year on year improvements. Ofsted has highlighted the commitment of staff and high expectations of both work and behaviour that we set for our children.

Our Key Stage 2 results continue to exceed both National and Medway averages which reflect the hard work and commitment of children, parents, governors and of course our staff team

We have been accredited with 'Investor in People' twice and indeed Hilltop was the first primary school in Medway to be accredited, receiving the plaque at a presentation at Leeds Castle.

Hilltop was also the very first school in Medway to establish a 'Walking Bus' with our parent organiser winning in the finals of the 'Pride of Medway Awards'.

We continue to be committed to the all round development of our children and this is reflected in such activities as our Arethusa Day, our visits to France and our Year 6 Residential. We participate in competitive sports with other schools and indeed last year won the Mini Youth Games Football Tournament.

Hilltop has also established one of only two Primary Music Centres in Medway which provides Instrumental  Activities on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.( Please see the gallery section of the website for a selection of photos from events).

In 1974, thanks to the efforts of parents and friends of the school, an indoor heated Swimming pool was opened which  is still in use today by our pupils.

The school has worked hard over the years to ensure our children have a good working environment. In order to improve security for the pupils and staff of the school, the Headteacher and Governors have spent the last eight years trying to close the public footpath that runs through the centre of the school. Following a recent Public Enquiry we are pleased to say that the footpath has now been closed by HM Planning Inspectorate

With regard to accommodation, in 1996, a large two-storey teaching block was built to replace seven temporary classrooms.

More recent additions have included a purpose built ICT Suite, new library, additional Junior Playground and seated area, lift to the first floor classrooms, new toilets and accommodation for our Home School Support Worker.

Three years ago the school was successful  in obtaining a grant from the National Lottery and the swimming pool was refurbished to a very high standard and new changing rooms, toilets and showers were added. The actual pool was tiled and underwater lighting installed, It is now available for private hire by schools and other organisations. Please contact our Business Manager, Mrs Kay, for further details.

The school has benefited greatly from the constant support of a very effective Parent Teacher Association. They actively support the running of fund raising events such as the Summer and Christmas Fayre, Quiz Nights, Discos and Pamper Nights  and and raise a lot of money. The money has been used in the past to provide a live theatre Pantomime at Christmas, Sports track suits for teams taking part in tournaments, wheeled toys for our Reception Children, and computers. All parents are automatically members of the PTA and parents who can spare time to help out are always welcome to join the PTA Committee. They have a large Bouncy Castle that they hire out to individuals.
