Brackenfield School is an area special school for the South of Derbyshire, providing an exciting and relevant education for young people with additional needs including Moderate and Severe Learning and social, emotional, mental health needs.

The Governors and Headteacher wish to appoint an outstanding classroom practitioner as Pathway Lead. Brackenfield School operates four learning pathways through from EYFS to Year 11; Communicate, Nurture, Decode and Comprehend. All four support the functional life skills outcomes of our learners.

  • Communicate Pathway supports the functional communication needs of learners ranging from P2ii- P8. There is a focus on independent life-skills and a transfer of skills across context.
  • Comprehend Pathway works to develop work skills and is typically accredited at Entry Level 1-3 at KS4.
  • Nurture Pathway supports learners who struggle to emotionally self- regulate and require support of adults to do so. Learners range from high P Scales into NC levels and there is an emphasis on being able to independently navigate the world with self-developed coping strategies. Nurture pupils will typically undertake an accredited route at entry level, level 1 or level 2 at KS4·
  • Decode Pathway offers equivalent level 1 and 2 qualifications at KS4 this is an accredited pathway and supports learners with skills for employment and further learning.

The successful candidate will oversee the day to day running and long term leadership for the Nurture Pathway. Duties of the post will include monitoring pupil progression, data analysis, curriculum design and offer, SMSC and enrichment opportunities, leading the staff team within the Pathway and managing Pathway budget. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the other Pathway Leads and with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure outcomes for pupils are outstanding.

Brackenfield School is part of the Derbyshire Federation of Special Schools and the East Midlands SCITT programme, the successful applicant may have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues in other schools to improve practice and also work with new entrants to the profession.
