Modern Foreign Languages Graduate Teaching Assistant Are you a Modern Foreign Languages graduate with either a 1st or 2:1 degree from a well-respected university? Are you fluent in one/both of these two languages – Spanish and French? Are you looking to train as a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages and would like to gain a year’s experience prior to studying as a Teaching Assistant? As an MFL graduate Teaching Assistant you will be working in the school’s languages faculty. You will be tasked with supporting the MFL teachers and their pupils. You will be spread across different year groups depending on the demands of the department. The school require candidates to assist in raising the competency levels of pupils learning foreign languages as well as supporting GCSE MFL and IB level pupils. Certain pupils find learning foreign languages difficult so the ability to find different and innovative ways of assisting learning will stand you in excellent stead.

Purpose of the Role To facilitate high quality learning within the classroom in collaboration with the regular teacher and to support and actively contribute towards an academy wide improvement in levels of progress within your link faculty.  Job Role and Duties • To work with small groups of students to improve their speaking and listening skills • To facilitate and encourage which helps all students achieve their potential • To work with colleagues to support high standards of behaviour and progress • To implement academy policies and procedures  When not required to be present in a full lesson, teaching assistants will be deployed to provide general assistance, for example to:  • To co-ordinate, personalise and prepare resources and materials for students up to key stage 5; • To establish positive working relationships with students; • To promptly respond to student requests for additional help with specific subject areas; • To demonstrate an ability organise and co-ordinate students; • To demonstrate an ability to work with teaching staff and use your personal initiative when personalising resources and communicating with others; • To effectively communicate with subject staff to establish starting points and targets for improvement; • To effectively teach on a one-to-one basis and students in a small group setting. • To effectively teach and support to ensure effective progress of any of the following groups of students • To plan out of hours provision/interventions for targeted groups of students and demonstrate progress between each assessment point. • To promote the academy’s ethos, vision and values.
